Early Tuesday morning, Ron Winter and Grey drove to a Hwy 20 Lookout Point between Bend and Sisters to photograph the Three Sisters mountain peaks at sunrise. This photo is looking due West. All three peaks exceed 10,000 feet in elevation. The left-most peak is the highest at about 10,300 feet. Click on the image for a larger view.

Tuesday Night Dinner

Tuesday evening we all gathered in the Hearth Room for cocktails and dinner and LOTS of picture taking. Classmates in the photos are (l. to r.) John Basye, Ed Steele, Ron Winter, Barbara (Duncan) Hewitt, Elva (Ledwith) Hoogner, Diana (Umland) Swenson, Jim Conner, Rich Keehn, Mike Johnson, and Grey Whipple. The large object in the background is a large free-standing copper-clad fireplace. Click on the image for a larger view. This is a full-screen enlargement so you can see how young we all look. (Not recommended if you have dial-up service; it is a large file.)

.

The setting for our dinner was a lovely private room with fireplace and windows on two sides. Note the appropriateness of the table linen colors and the fireplace in the background.

This evening was Rich Keehn's moment of glory and we celebrated his 71st birthday with a special birthday cake. After' Happy Birthday' was sung and the candles were extinguished, life-long friend Jim Conner spoke to the group about their friendship since grammar school days and Rich's contributions to the wine industry, state agriculture, and defending America.

Some candid photos: One of the nice things about this gathering was how the spouses felt comfortable with classmates and each other. In this photo, Margi Winter, John Basye, and Karen Keehn share some conversation.

Rich Keehn, ever the businessman, greets classmate Diana (Umland) Swenson and her new husband of six months, Lloyd Swenson. Note the color of Lloyd's shirt.

Both Diana and Lloyd lost their spouses to health issues, and a chance meeting in Sunriver progressed soon to marriage. Both have their own homes in Sunriver but they live in Lloyd's house. Lloyd is a retired IBM mechanical engineer and has his own airplane housed at the Sunriver Airport.

Where would we all be without our spouses. This is all of us. Click on the image for a larger view. This picture, too, is a large file. It fills the screen and takes a long time to load.

Departure

Early Thursday morning, we left Sunriver Resort headed south on Hwy 97 and snow was falling. South of Klamath Falls the highway turns southwest and joins I-5 north of Mt. Shasta (Elevation 14,179 feet). The mid-morning sun provided a magnificent view of the mountain. Click on the image for a larger view.
