Gene found great joy in spending time with his family and friends. In 1961, Gene married Cheryl Swan and raised five kids; Derek, Shelley, Peter, Kirsten and Kyle. In 1987 Gene married Doris Watson and together they raised Brendan Hellar.

Finally, Gene spent his last five years with Lynn Butler who he dearly loved while also growing close to her children; Christopher, Amy and Amanda. Gene was a proud grandfather of eight and counted them as one of his greatest blessings. He would not hesitate to let you know who he thanked; Our Lord Jesus Christ.

The stories he lived and told reflected his beliefs in ways that are everlasting and comforting for all who heard them. He will be greatly missed and always remembered.
